Franse parachutisten vormden een onderdeel van de SAS, de Britse, militaire Special Air Service. Zij moesten bij de Operatie Amherst verkeersknooppunten en bruggen in Drenthe en Groningen veilig stellen. Dit moest mogelijk maken dat Canadese troepen snel naar de stad Groningen door konden trekken. (nl)
