L'atmosph\u00E8re de Jupiter se caract\u00E9rise par l'absence de limite inf\u00E9rieure pr\u00E9cise et se m\u00E9lange graduellement aux fluides int\u00E9rieurs de la plan\u00E8te. De bas en haut, les couches atmosph\u00E9riques sont la troposph\u00E8re, la stratosph\u00E8re, la thermosph\u00E8re et l'exosph\u00E8re. Chaque couche a un gradient thermique caract\u00E9ristique. La plus basse, la troposph\u00E8re, poss\u00E8de un syst\u00E8me complexe de nuages et de brumes, comprenant des couches d'ammoniac, de l'hydrosulfure d'ammonium et de l'eau. Les hauts nuages d'ammoniac visibles sur la \u00AB surface \u00BB de Jupiter sont organis\u00E9s en une douzaine de bandes parall\u00E8les \u00E0 l'\u00E9quateur et sont bord\u00E9s par des courants atmosph\u00E9riques (des vents) connus sous le nom de courants-jets.
