L'any 1666 va viatjar a Bolonya, on va estudiar amb Giovanni Benvenutti i Leonardo Brugnoli. L'any 1670 va ser designat membre de l'Acad\u00E8mia Filharm\u00F2nica de Bolonya. Cinc anys m\u00E9s tard es va establir a Roma, on va ser adoptat i allotjat pel cardenal , nebot del papa Alexandre VIII. A Roma va aconseguir una extraordin\u00E0ria fama com a violinista, al mateix temps que va perfeccionar la seua t\u00E8cnica compositiva amb M. Simonelli. L'any 1679 era viol\u00ED principal del Teatre Capranica, i dos anys despr\u00E9s va passar a dirigir les orquestres dels principals nobles romans: el cardenal Benedetto Pamphili, el cardenal Pietro Ottoboni i la reina Cristina de Su\u00E8cia. Sota el patronatge d'aquesta va aconseguir el seu major esplendor. Durant aquests anys a Roma tamb\u00E9 donava lli\u00E7ons del seu instrument (viol\u00ED), i tingu\u00E9 molts alumnes, entre ells a Pietro Castrucci, .L'any 1682 va esdevenir primer viol\u00ED de l'orquestra de la capella de Sant Luigi dei Francesi. El 1684 va ingressar en la Congregazione dei Virtuosi de S. Cec\u00EDlia. Al voltant de 1700, Corelli era ja primer violinista i director de concerts del Palazzo della Cancelleria. La seua fama era tan gran, que l'any 1706 va ingressar en l'Acad\u00E8mia Arcadia, una alt\u00EDssima distinci\u00F3 en aqueixa \u00E8poca, on va con\u00E8ixer Domenico Scarlatti i Carlo Tessarini.
