Rem va ser descobert diversos anys despr\u00E9s de R\u00F2mul en les imatges preses a partir del 9 d'agost de 2004, i anunciat el 10 d'agost de 2005. Va ser descobert per de , i , , i de l'Observatori de Par\u00EDs, Fran\u00E7a, utilitzant el telescopi Yepun de l'Observatori Europeu Austral (ESO) a Xile. Marchis, tel l\u00EDder del projecte, estava esperant la finalitzaci\u00F3 del programa d'adquisici\u00F3 de la imatge abans de comen\u00E7ar a processar les dades.
