"O Pegasus foi uma s\u00E9rie composta por tr\u00EAs sat\u00E9lite lan\u00E7ados em 1965 para estudar a freq\u00FC\u00EAncia de impacto e penetra\u00E7\u00E3o de micro meteoritos na \u00F3rbita da Terra. O projeto foi criado para avaliar os riscos que a nave espacial Apollo e sua tripula\u00E7\u00E3o correriam se part\u00EDculas min\u00FAsculas pudessem penetrar a estrutura da nave.O sat\u00E9lite foi batizado com o nome do cavalo alado da mitologia grega (P\u00E9gaso) por suas enormes asas que carregavam 208 pain\u00E9is. Expondo uma superf\u00EDcie de 700 m\u00B2 com v\u00E1rias espessuras e provida de sensores para avaliar a freq\u00FC\u00EAncia, tamanho, dire\u00E7\u00E3o e penetra\u00E7\u00E3o dos micro meteoritos em grandes altitudes. O Centro Aeroespacial Marshall da NASA (MSFC) foi o respons\u00E1vel pela produ\u00E7\u00E3o e opera\u00E7\u00E3o do projeto Pegasus. Todas as miss\u00F5es do Pegasus forneceram mais do que dados de penetra\u00E7\u00E3o dos micro meteoritos. Os cientistas podiam tamb\u00E9m recolher dados a respeito do movimento girosc\u00F3pio e caracter\u00EDsticas orbitais de corpos r\u00EDgidos no espa\u00E7o. Observar a vida \u00FAtil de componentes eletr\u00F4nicos, sistemas de controle t\u00E9rmico e os efeitos degradantes dos revestimentos t\u00E9rmicos dos sistemas no ambiente do espa\u00E7o.
