About: Wu (kana)

An Entity of Type: Thing, from Named Graph: http://dbpedia.org, within Data Space: dbpedia.org

Wu, ๐›„Ÿ in hiragana, ๐›„ข in katakana, is an obsolete Japanese kana. It is presumed that ๐›„Ÿ would have represented [ษฐษฏ]. Along with ๐›€† and ๐›€ (yi and ye respectively), the syllable wu has no officially recognized kana, as these syllables do not occur in native Japanese words; however, during the Meiji period, linguists almost unanimously agreed on the kana for yi, ye, and wu. ๐›€† and wu are thought to have never occurred as syllables in Japanese, and ๐›€ was merged with ใˆ and ใ‚จ. This kana is not officially encoded into Unicode as of now, but it has the draft name of HIRAGANA LETTER ARCHAIC WU (U+1B11F), and KATAKANA LETTER ARCHAIC WU (U+1B122). This kana, in both forms, with the other obsolete kana is in the font Nishiki-Teki.
