- لعبت المرأة أدوارًا مختلفة في الثورة الأمريكية، بناءً على وضعهن الاجتماعي (إذ كان العِرق عاملاً مهمًا) وآرائهن السياسية. اندلعت الثورة الأمريكية بعد فرض بريطانيا قوانين وقرارات قسرية لا تُطاق في مستعمراتها. ناهض الأمريكيون هذه القوانين بإقامة مؤتمر قاري وأخذ قرار الدخول في حرب مع البريطانيين. لم يكن بقدرة الحرب أن تستمر وتتقدم كما فعلت دون الدعم الإيديولوجي الواسع، وكذلك المادي من قِبل سكان المستعمرات، إناثًا وذكورًا على حد السواء. رغم عدم شمل النساء في السياسة الرسمية، فالسلوكيات المنزلية العادية أصبحت جوهرية، واهتممن بالأمور السياسية، وذلك لانخراط المرأة ومواجهتها للثورة. وأظهرن العديد من المواقف المتمثلة في توقف الأنشطة اليومية السابقة، مثل شرب الشاي البريطاني أو طلب الملابس من بريطانيا، واشتدت معارضة الاستعمار خلال السنوات التي سبقت الحرب وأثناءها. على الرغم من إثارة الحرب مسألة مدى وطنية المرأة، فقد أثبتت النساء في المستعمرات المنفصلة، قدرتهن على إثبات وطنيتهن. عبّرت النساء عن دعمهن للثورة بشكل رئيسي من خلال إتقان المهن النسائية التقليدية في المنازل والمُساعدة في تحسين الاقتصاد المحلي والمشاركة في أعمال أزواجهن وآبائهن. شاركت النساء في تحسين الاقتصاد المحلي عن طريق مقاطعة البضائع البريطانية وإعداد الطعام للجنود والتجسس على البريطانيين والتنكر في زيٍّ رجالي للعمل مع القوات المسلحة. أثّرت الحرب أيضًا على حياة النساء اللاتي بقين مواليات للتاج، أو كن محايدات سياسيًا، فقد كان التأثير مدمرًا في كثير من الحالات. - Plusieurs acteurs ont participé à la révolution américaine à la fin du XVIIIe siècle. Cette participation a été plus ou moins active et s’est parfois opposé à la révolution de manière radicale. L’historiographie récente a tenté d’étudier la place des femmes dans la naissance des États-Unis et dans la guerre d'indépendance américaine. Elle s’est penchée sur le rôle des individus, mais aussi sur celui des groupes sociaux. (fr)
- Women in the American Revolution played various roles depending on their social status (in which race was a factor) and their political views. The American Revolutionary War took place after Great Britain put in place the seven Coercive, or Intolerable Acts, in the colonies. Americans responded by forming the Continental Congress and going to war with the British. The war would not have been able to progress as it did without the widespread ideological, as well as material, support of both male and female inhabitants of the colonies. While formal politics did not include women, ordinary domestic behaviors became charged with political significance as women confronted the Revolution. Halting previously everyday activities, such as drinking British tea or ordering clothes from Britain, demonstrated Colonial opposition during the years leading up to and during the war. Although the war raised the question of whether or not a woman could be a patriot, women across separate colonies demonstrated that they could. Support was mainly expressed through traditional female occupations in the home, the domestic economy, and their husbands' and fathers' businesses. Women participated by boycotting British goods, producing goods for soldiers, spying on the British, and serving in the armed forces disguised as men. The war also affected the lives of women who remained loyal to the crown, or those who remained politically neutral; in many cases, the impact was devastating. (en)
- アメリカ独立戦争における女性達（アメリカどくりつせんそうにおけるじょせいたち、英:Women in the American Revolution）では、アメリカ独立戦争中とその前後で、様々な立場に置かれた女性達がどのように行動し、またその立場がどう変わっていったかについて述べる。 独立戦争の頃、政治と戦争に参加するのは男性に限られていた。しかし、女性がいなければ政治も戦争も動かなかったことも事実である。積極的に戦争の遂行に協力した女性の中には歴史に名を留めた者もいる。8年間にも及ぶ戦争とその前後の激動の時代を生き抜くためには多くの試練に耐え、また生活様式を変えていくことを女性達に強要した。新生したアメリカ合衆国の中で、女性の姿がすこしずつ社会の表に現れ始めた時代とも考えられる。 (ja)
