Su nombre completo es Comisión para la Conservación y Ordenación de Poblaciones de Peces Altamente Migratorios en el Océano Pacífico Occidental y Central. Comenzó a funcionar a finales de 2005 y su secretaría tiene su sede en Pohnpei, en los Estados Federados de Micronesia, en el Pacífico septentrional. Fue establecida por el tratado internacional Convención sobre la Conservación y Ordenación de las Poblaciones de Peces Altamente Migratorios en el Océano Pacífico Occidental y Central (Convención WCPF), que entró en vigor el 19 de junio de 2004. La Convención WCPF es el segundo acuerdo regional de ingeniería pesquera negociado desde la conclusión del Acuerdo sobre Poblaciones de Peces de la ONU de 1995. (es)

- The Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) is both a general and a tuna regional fisheries management organisation established to conserve and manage tuna and other highly migratory fish stocks across the western and central areas of the Pacific Ocean. Its full name is Commission for the Conservation and Management of Highly Migratory Fish Stocks in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean. It commenced operations in late 2005, and its secretariat is based in Pohnpei, in the northern Pacific state of the Federated States of Micronesia. It was established by the international treaty Convention on the Conservation and Management of Highly Migratory Fish Stocks in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean (WCPF Convention), which entered into force on 19 June 2004. The WCPF Convention is the second regional fisheries management agreement negotiated since the conclusion of the 1995 U.N. Fish Stocks Agreement. (en)
