- Die Wyborger Seite (russisch Выборгская сторона) ist ein historischer Stadtteil von Sankt Petersburg am rechten Ufer der Flüsse Newa und . Zu Beginn des 18. Jahrhunderts gliederte sich der Stadtteil in eine Karelische (bzw. Finnische oder Schwedische), Ingermanländische und Kanzewskaja-Seite. Die Karelische Seite lag am rechten Ufer der Newa, die Ingermanländische am linken und die Kanzewskaja-Seite an der -Mündung an der Nyenschantz (russische Bezeichnung im 17. Jahrhundert: Kanzy – Канцы). 1718 wurde die Polizei gegründet und Sankt Petersburg offiziell in fünf Stadtteile gegliedert: die Petersburger, Admiralitäts-, Moskauer, Wyborger Seite und die Wassiljewski-Insel. Dabei erhielt die ehemalige Karelische Seite den Namen Wyborger Seite. Der Name rührt von der alten Straße nach Wyborg her, die hier ihren Anfang nahm. Einige Quellen sagen aus, dass diese Straße wenigstens bis zur Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts an der Stelle des heutigen Bolschoi Samsoniewski Prospektes (Большой Сампсониевский проспект) verlief. Andererseits, wenn man die Periode vor Peter I. betrachtet, so verlief sie nach einem schwedischen Plan von 1698 an ihrem Beginn östlicher (bis in Höhe der heutigen Metrostation Чёрная речка) und schwenkte später in Richtung Westen ab, etwa auf die Trasse der heutigen Laner Chaussee (Ланское шоссе). 1740 ging die Wyborger Seite in der Petersburger auf, wurde aber nach der Reform der Stadtverwaltung 1782 wieder selbständig. Schon zu Zeiten von Peter I. gingen auf der Wyborger Seite die ersten Fabriken in Betrieb. In der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts war die Wyborger Seite der Industriestadtteil der Hauptstadt. Ende des 19. bzw. Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts wurden hier die ersten Vereine der Arbeiterbewegung organisiert. - 'The Vyborg Side (Russian: Выборгская сторона) is the traditional name of the northern and northeastern part of Saint Petersburg, Russia on the right-hand bank of the city's main waterway Neva and its first right-hand arm the Bolshaya Nevka. This large area was one of the five police administration parts of the city which were created under Peter I in 1718 and, shifting borders, existed until the February Revolution of 1917 that replaced them with rayony - districts of then Petrograd (the city's name in 1914–1924). The number and boundaries of districts varied throughout the 20 century. The Vyborg Side had previously been called Karelian Side and surrounded the old Swedish road to a then-major city of Vyborg from the Swedish town Nien and its fort located at the mouth of Okhta River, a tributary of the Neva. The Vyborg Side was divided into Vyborg District (Vyborgskiy rayon), Kalinin District (Kalininskiy rayon) and parts of Krasnogvardeyskiy District and Primorskiy District of Saint Petersburg. The active participation of its factory workers in the 1917 October Revolution was shown in a series of three feature films about a young revolutionary workman with the first name Maxim, including the eponymous Vyborgskaya storona - The Vyborg Side.
