  • Eagraíocht Chaitliceach Éireannach do ón mbiotáille é an Pioneer Total Abstinence Association, nó Na Réadóirí, mar a deirtear as Gaeilge. Tugtar Pioneers ("ceannródaithe") nó réadóirí ar bhaill an chumainn. Níl Cumann na Réadóirí ag iarraidh cosc dlí a chur ar an alcól, ach caithfidh gach ball den chumann staonadh ó úsáid na ndeochanna alcólacha. Cuid d'idé-eolaíocht an Chumainn é freisin deabhóid do Chroí Ró-Naofa Íosa a spreagadh mar leigheas ar an ólachán. Caitheann na Réadóirí suaitheantas ar leith lena mballraíocht sa chumann a chur in iúl agus le súil na ndaoine a tharraingt ar an eagraíocht agus ar an ólséantóireacht mar rud. Ba é an tÍosánach a bhunaigh Cumann na Réadóirí sa bhliain 1898 le cur in aghaidh na ró-úsáide biotáille i measc na nÉireannach Caitliceach. San am seo bhí muintir na hÉireann ag déanamh dearmaid de ghluaiseacht staonaireachta an Athara a bhí an-láidir thiar sa naoú haois déag (sa Ghaeilge féin, thugtaí "gluaiseacht an phledge" ar an ngluaiseacht seo, ó bhí an-tábhacht leis an ngeallúint staonaireachta, an pledge, i ngníomhaíocht na gluaiseachta). I rith na fichiú haoise, chuaigh Cumann na Réadóirí chomh mór i bhfairsinge i measc na nGael is gurbh ionann pioneer i mBéarla na hÉireann agus réadóir. Bhí tionchar nár bheag ag na Réadóirí ar pholasaithe an stáit freisin, go háirithe i ré an tSaorstáit. Sa bhliain 1923, mhol Coimisinéir an Gharda Síochána Eoin Ó Dufaigh do na Gardaí dul sna Réadóirí, agus cheadaigh sé dóibh suaitheantas an chumainn a chaitheamh ar an tsainéide, cé gur choisc rialacha na nGardaí siombailí iasachta den chineál sin go ginearálta. Sa bhliain 1948 bhí 360,000 ball san eagraíocht, de réir a rollaí féin. Sa bhliain 1956 choimisiúnaigh an tAire Dlí agus Cirt James Everett fiosrú oifigiúil i gcúrsaí na ndlíthe ceadúnúcháin, agus bhí ionadaí ag na Réadóirí ar an gcoiste a rinne an fiosrú, . Ní raibh ann ach duine den bheirt is scór, áfach, agus nuair a d'eisigh an coiste a thuarascáil, níor chuir an Cléireach in aghaidh thuairim an tronlaigh a bhí sásta na rialúcháin faoi uaireanta oscailte na dtithe ólacháin a chaitheamh i dtraipisí, ó nach raibh mórán ag tabhairt aird ar na rialúcháin sin pé scéal é. Bhí na sagairt míshásta leis an dlí a chuaigh i bhfeidhm de thoradh mholtaí an choiste fiosrúcháin, áfach. In Éirinn, téann na daoine óga faoi lámh easpaig agus iad aon bhliain déag d'aois, agus mar chuid de na deasghnátha, is minic a thugtar spreagadh dóibh móid ólstaonaireachta a thabhairt agus gan alcól a ól go dtí go mbeidh siad ocht mbliana déag, ar a laghad. Glacann na Réadóirí páirt ghníomhach sna hiarrachtaí seo, agus iad ag spreagadh na ndaoine óga, go háirithe sna scoileanna reiligiúnacha dul sa Chumann. Mar sin féin, is fadhb mhór é ólachán na ndaoine óga faoi bhun ocht mblian déag d'aois in Éirinn. De réir is mar atá an tsochaí ag dul chun saoltachta, tá na Réadóirí ag dul in aois, agus na daoine óga nach n-ólann biotáille, ní théann siad sna Réadóirí a thuilleadh. Bíonn na Réadóirí ag reáchtáil ócáidí caidrimh agus cuideachtan gan alcól, ar nós tráthanna ceist, comórtais tallainne, agus ócáidí lúthchleasaíochta. I Mí Aibreáin 2011, d'admhaigh na Réadóirí ar a gclár cinn Idirlín go raibh an cumann báite i bhfiacha agus go raibh iarrachtaí de dhíth le hairgead a thiomsú. (ga)
