- Phlaeothripidae es una familia de Thysanoptera con cientos de géneros. A veces el nombre es mal escrito "Phaleothripidae". Es la única familia del suborden Tubulifera, y esta organizada en dos subfamilias, con 81 géneros, y con 375 géneros. Se han descrito casi 3600 especies en esta familia, y muchas son fungívoras que viven en los trópicos. Los trips de esta familia son bastante comunes, y en general son más grandes que los del suborden Terebrantia (que contiene a todos los otros trips). El cuerpo de puede llegar a medir 14 mm de largo. La familia se distingue porque poseen el último segmento abdominal modificado formando una estructura que asemeja un tubo – de allí deriva el nombre del suborden, que significa "que tienen tubo". They are the only extant family of the suborder Tubulifera, alongside the extinct family and are themselves ordered into two subfamilies, the Idolothripinae with 80 genera, and the Phlaeothripinae with almost 400. Some 3,400 species are recognised in this family, and many are fungivores living in the tropics. Thrips from this family are fairly common, and are generally larger than those in the suborder Terebrantia (containing all other thrips). can attain a body length of up to 14 mm. The group is distinguished by having the last abdominal segment modified into a tube-like structure – hence the suborder's name, which means "tube-bearers". (en)
