- Der Europäische transsonische Windkanal (ETW, englisch European Transonic Windtunnel) ist eine Versuchs- und Simulationsanlage, die die Möglichkeit bietet, unter anderem Flugzeugmodelle unter annähernd realen Flugbedingungen zu testen. Er befindet sich in an der Ernst-Mach-Straße in Köln in direkter Nachbarschaft zum Deutschen Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR). Die Einrichtung wurde in Zusammenarbeit des Office national d’études et de recherches aérospatiales (ONERA, Frankreich), des Department of Trade and Industry (DTI, Großbritannien), des (NLR, Niederlande) und des Deutschen Zentrums für Luft- und Raumfahrt aufgebaut und seit seiner Fertigstellung 1992 von diesen betrieben. 2012 stieg das französische ONERA aus dem Projekt aus. - The European transonic wind tunnel (ETW) is a high-Reynolds-number transonic wind tunnel using nitrogen as test gas. It is one of the world's largest cryogenic wind tunnels. It is situated in Cologne, Germany. ETW was constructed and is operated by the four European countries France, Germany, Great Britain and The Netherlands. The ETW is in operation since 1994. ETW provides real-flight Reynolds numbers by virtue of both increased pressure and decreased temperature. Independent variation of Reynolds number and aero elastic loading can be done there. They specialize in Flight Reynolds number testing for full-span and semi-span models at cruise conditions and extreme borders of flight envelope. (en)
