- Els Criolls de Belize o Kriols són criolls descendents d'anglesos i d'escocesos (els ) i antics esclaus afroamericans portats a Belize, però també a la de Nicaragua, a Jamaica i a altres llocs el Carib occidental. La llengua que parlen és la llengua criolla, però, tot i això la seva etnicitat ha esdevingut sinònima de la identitat nacional de Belize i per això la seva llengua actualment és parlada pel 75% dels belizeans. En general viuen a les zones urbanes com la ciutat de Belize i la zona de la costa. Hi ha una població aproximada de 160.000 kriols (que inclouen el 24,9% de la població de Belize). Les regions que tenen una població significativa de kriols són Belize, el comtat de Los Angeles, Chicago, Nova York, Houston i el Regne Unit. Els Kriols parlen sobretot llengua criolla i anglès. La majoria dels kriols de Belize practiquen la religió protestant. També hi ha minories de creients catòlics, musulmans i rastafarians. - Die Kreolen in Belize sind Kreolen im mittelamerikanischen Belize, deren Herkunft ursprünglich ab Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts auf Beziehungen zwischen englischen und schottischen Holzarbeitern, den sogenannten , und ihren aus Schwarzafrika verschleppten Sklaven zurückgeht. Die belizisch-kreolische Sprache, die sich in erster Linie durch die Interaktion zwischen Afrikanern und Europäern entwickelte, wurde historisch nur von diesen gesprochen. Die Kreolen bildeten die Mehrheit der Bevölkerung bis in die 1980er-Jahre. Als Folge davon verbreitete sich die kreolische Sprache. Heutzutage wird sie von etwa 75 % der Belizer gesprochen, inklusive vieler neuer Einwanderer, die seit dem späten 20. Jahrhundert ins Land kamen. Im 21. - Belizean Creoles, also known as Kriols, are a Creole ethnic group native to Belize. Belizean Creoles are primarily mixed-raced descendants of enslaved West and Central Africans who were brought to the British Honduras (present-day Belize along the Bay of Honduras) as well as the English and Scottish log cutters, known as the Baymen who trafficked them. Over the years they have also intermarried with Miskito from Nicaragua, Jamaicans and other Caribbean people, Mestizos, Europeans, Garifunas, Mayas, and Chinese and Indians. The latter were brought to Belize as indentured laborers. Majority of Kriols trace their ancestry to several of the aforementioned groups. The Belize Kriol language, developed initially by interaction among the Africans and Europeans, was historically spoken only by them. The Creoles constituted the majority of the population until the 1980s and became synonymous with the Belizean national identity. As a result, the use of the Kriol language has become more widespread. It is now spoken by about 75% of Belizeans, including the many new immigrants who have arrived since the late 20th century. In the 21st century, Creoles are found predominantly in urban areas, such as Belize City, and in most coastal towns and villages. (en)
