- حاولَ بعضُ مؤيدي جماعة الإخوان المسلمون في 26 حزيران/يونيو 1980 اغتيال الرئيس السوري حافظ الأسد وذلك من خلال استهدافه بقنبلتين يدويتين ثم إطلاق مكثف للنيران بواسطة مدفع رشاش خلال انتظاره لدبلوماسي أفريقي في قصر الضيافة في دمشق. نجا الأسد من محاولة الاغتيال الفاشلة وهذه وذلك بعدمَا ركل قنبلة يدوية واحدة بعيدًا عنه في حين قام أحد حراسه برمي نفسه على القنبلة اليدوية الثانية. جاءَ الهجوم في سياق الانتفاضة إسلامية في سوريا. تسبّب الهجوم على الرئيس في سلسلة من الأعمال الانتقامية التي قامت بها القوات الحكومية وأبرزها مجزرة سجن تدمر التي حصلت في اليوم التالي. بعد عشرة أيام صدرَ قانونٌ مثير للجدل عُرف باسم القانون 49 وينصُ بوضوح على إعدام كل شخص ينتمي لجماعة الإخوان المسلمين. - On 26 June 1980, an assassination attempt on Hafez al-Assad, the Syrian president, was carried out by Muslim Brotherhood supporters who threw two grenades and fired machine gun bursts at him as he waited for an African diplomat in the Guest Palace in Damascus. Assad kicked one grenade out of range, whilst one of Assad's bodyguards threw himself on the other grenade. The attack came in the context of the Islamist uprising in Syria. The attack on the president prompted a series of deadly retaliation by the government troops, most notably the Tadmor prison massacre, carried out the next day. Ten days later was passed, making membership of the Muslim Brotherhood a capital offense punishable by death. (en)
- La tentative d'assassinat de Hafez el-Assad est survenu le 26 juin 1980 lorsqu'une tentative d'assassinat contre Hafez el-Assad, le président syrien, a été perpétrée par des partisans des Frères musulmans qui lui ont lancé deux grenades et tiré des rafales de mitrailleuses alors qu'il attendait un diplomate africain au palais des invités à Damas. Assad a lancé une grenade hors de portée, tandis qu'un des gardes du corps d'Assad s'est jeté sur l'autre grenade. L'attaque est intervenue dans le contexte du soulèvement islamiste en Syrie. L'attaque contre le président a provoqué une série de représailles meurtrières de la part des troupes gouvernementales, notamment le massacre de la prison de Tadmor, perpétré le lendemain. Dix jours plus tard, la loi n° 49 était promulguée, faisant de l'appartenance aux Frères musulmans un crime passible de la peine de mort. (fr)
