Education in South Korea is provided by both public schools and private schools. Both types of schools receive funding from the government, although the amount that the private schools receive is less than the amount of the state schools. While obtaining a higher education in South Korea is not mandatory, it is abnormal to not have one. In 2014, South Korea's universities were attended by over two million students. The amount of teens age 15–19 is over two million, meaning only 1.7% of students between that age group are not attending college. (Krechetnikov, 2016)
