The World Triathlon Cup is an annual series of triathlon races staged around the world. The series is organised by the World Triathlon, the world governing body of the sport. Inaugurated in 1991, the World Cup began as an attempt to create a regular season under its management in tandem with the ITU Triathlon World Championship race. However, this meant that there was a World Cup champion as well as a world champion. Following the 2008 series the ITU reorganized its top level competitions and created the World Triathlon Series, a series of races that was to be the successor of the World Championship. - The ITU wereldbeker triatlon is een serie van triatlonwedstrijden verspreid over de wereld. De deelnemers kunnen punten verzamelen aan de hand van hun finishpositie. Diegene die aan het eind van het jaar het meeste punten heeft behaald bij de ITU wereldbekerwedstrijden wint de ITU World Cup. De wedstrijden worden gehouden over de olympische afstand (1500 m zwemmen, 40 km fietsen en 10 km lopen) of over de halve olympische afstand (sprintafstand; 750 m zwemmen, 20 km fietsen en 5 km lopen). | - La Copa Mundial de Triatlón es una competición anual de carreras de triatlón situadas por todo el mundo. La competición es organizada por la Unión Internacional de Triatlón. Cada evento de la competición usa una distancia estándar (olímpica):1500m de natación en aguas abiertas, 40 km de ciclismo en ruta (en un circuito urbano) y 10 km de carrera a pie. Un total de 300 puntos se distribuyen entre los atletas, depende de la posición final que queden. Los puntos que ganan contribuyen en la clasificación total del campeonato. Los puntos ganados en cada evento también cuentan para la clasificación de los Juegos Olímpicos. Un total de 100.000 dólares se distrubuyen, por igual, entre los hombres y mujeres que ganan cada evento. (es)

De wereldbeker triatlon heeft sindsdien significant aan belang ingeboet, hoewel er ook tijdens wereldbekerwedstrijden enige punten voor het WK te verdienen zijn. Ter vergelijking, tijdens een WK-wedstrijd kunnen 800 punten worden verdiend en tijdens een wereldbekerwedstrijd 300 punten. Maximaal twee wereldbekerwedstrijden tellen mee.
