William Henry Hunt (London 28 March 1790 – 10 February 1864), was an English watercolourist. Hunt was "one of the key figuresin nineteenth-century English watercolour painting. His work was extensively collected in his lifetime, particularly his genre pictures of children, often in humorous situations, and his detailed, naturalistic still lifes of fruit, flowers, and birds' nests that earned him the nickname ‘Bird’s Nest’ Hunt."

Hunt trat 1808 in die Londoner Akademie ein, nachdem er bei John Varley Unterricht genossen hatte, und stellte anfangs Ölgemälde, ab 1814 aber meist Aquarelle aus. 1827 wurde er Mitglied der Society of Painters in Water Colours. Seine Schaffenskraft war groß. Oft sah man 20 bis 30 Werke zugleich von ihm ausgestellt: Interieurs, Genrebilder, Stillleben, Porträts. Am Anfang seiner Laufbahn noch unsicher im Aquarell, entwickelte er sein Talent zu glänzender Höhe und wurde allen Gattungen, die er behandelte, mit großer Naturwahrheit gerecht. Von Jugend auf kränklich, verbrachte er viel Zeit in Hastings und starb am 10. Februar 1864 in London. Uczył się w latach 1804–1811 u malarza i akwarelisty Johna Varleya, studia uzupełniał na zajęciach w Royal Academy, gdzie wystawiał od 1807. Początkowo malował posługując się techniką olejną, jednak największe uznanie zdobył jako twórca naturalistycznych akwareli przedstawiających martwe natury. W latach 30. i 40. XIX wieku malował również sceny rodzajowe. Duże zbiory prac Hunta posiadają kolekcje brytyjskie, British Museum, Muzeum Wiktorii i Alberta i Tate Gallery. (pl) William Henry Hunt (Londen, 28 maart 1790 - aldaar, 10 februari 1864) was een Engels kunstschilder. Hij werkte aanvankelijk in olieverf maar schakelde later over op de aquarelkunst. Rond 1805 ging de jonge Hunt in de leer bij de befaamde aquarellist en landschapschilder John Varley, waar hij samen studeerde met John Linnell en William Mulready.Reeds in 1807 stelde hij enkele olieverfwerken tentoon bij de Royal Academy of Arts, waar hij het jaar daarna lid van werd. Rond 1814 ging hij over op het werken in aquarel en vervaardigde sindsdien in die techniek met toenemende bekwaamheid een zeer groot aantal werken over een breed scala van thema's, zoals portretten, landschappen, genrestukken en stillevens. Alle werken vertonen een grote natuurgetrouwheid, waarmee hij ook faam verwierf. (nl)
