Major-General William Goffe c. 1620 to c. 1679 was an English religious radical who fought for Parliament in the Wars of the Three Kingdoms and served in the New Model Army. A close associate and supporter of Oliver Cromwell, he was one of the first to demand the removal of Charles I, whose death warrant he signed in January 1649. As a result, he was prosecuted after the 1660 Stuart Restoration as a regicide, and along with his father-in-law and fellow regicide General Edward Whalley, escaped to New England where he spent the rest of his life in hiding. He is claimed to be the Angel of Hadley, a figure who allegedly helped repulse an attack on the town in 1675 by Native Americans, and is thought to have died around 1679.
