Višeslav was one of the first dukes (Croatian: knez) in Dalmatian Croatia. He ruled with the support of the Pope and Byzantium. The Croats warred against the Franks during his rule and avoided defeat until 803, a year after his death. During the siege of Trsat in the autumn of 799 between the defending forces under his leadership and the invading Frankish army of the Carolingian Empire, the Frankish commander Eric of Friuli was killed. Ultimately, his duchy did accept Frankish overlordship through the Pax Nicephori.

(uk) Višeslav (lateinisch Vuissasclavus, Visseslaus) war ein slawischer Fürst, der Anfang des 9. Jahrhunderts an einem unbekannten Ort im Südosten des Karolingerreiches herrschte. Die einzige erhaltene Quelle für seine Existenz ist das Taufbecken des Fürsten Višeslav, das im 19. Jahrhundert in Venedig aufgefunden wurde und sich heute im in Split befindet. Aus der Aufschrift des Taufbeckens geht lediglich hervor, dass Višeslav dux war, sein Herrschaftsbereich wird jedoch nicht genannt. Das Taufbecken wird heute aufgrund kunsthistorischer und paläographischer Analyse gewöhnlich an den Anfang des 9. Jahrhunderts datiert, in der älteren Literatur fanden sich auch spätere Datierungen. In einem Teil der Literatur wurde das Taufbecken mit der Kathedrale von Nin in Verbindung gebracht und die Vermutun (de) Višeslav adalah salah satu adipati pertama (bahasa Kroasia: knez) di Dalmasia Kroasia.
