He followed a Diploma Course with the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well in addition to getting his professional qualifications from The Chartered Institue of Marketing and also got his certifications in English from the University of Cambridge. Udith Lokubandara enters his father’s personal staff as the Private Secretary to the ministry of Justice and Law reform and National integration in the first mix government of President Chandrika Bandaranayake and Prime minster Ranil Wickramashinghe. Following the snap elections of 2004 Udith was involved in the historical election of the first Speaker of parliament representing the opposition his father Hon W.J.M. Lokubandara in 2004 who would preside over parliament during the last stages of the brutal civil war in Sri Lanka. Udith would then go on to join the staff of President Mahinda Rajapaksa as a consultant to his ICT department spearheaded by then Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga. Joining the SLFP political party after President Mahinda Rajapaksa took over the reigns of the party, Udith represented the Badulla district from 2010 to 2015. He was appointed the monitoring member of parliament for the ministry of defense and urban development by President Mahinda Rajapksa from 2010 end to 2015. He was a member of the speakers panel in the parliament under speakership of Hon Chamal Rajapaksa during his tenure in parliament. He has represented Sri Lanka at several international conferences and interparliamentary discussions. He was a contributor for the Parliamentarian Journal of the Common Wealth Parliamentarians Association during his tenure in parliament. He took over the position of private secretary to the President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the year 2015 after the Sri Lankan political strong man fell out of power and was popular as 'MRs shadow'. After Mahinda Rajapaksa made a whirlwind comeback to power forming his own political party in 2020 Udith contested for the Badulla district under the SLPP ticket but was not elected. He was appointed by the PM Mahinda Rajapaksa as his Parliamentary Affairs Secretary soon after. (en)
