USS Pelican (MHC-53) was the third Osprey-class coastal minehunter and the third ship in the Navy to bear the name of the bird. From 1 January 1997 on, Pelican was part of the Naval Reserve Force. In that role the ship was used as training platform for naval reservists. Both decommissioned and stricken from the Navy List on 16 March 2007, Pelican was transferred to the Hellenic Navy the same day. There she was recommissioned as Evniki.

  • Die USS Pelican (MHC-53) war ein Minenjagdboot der United States Navy. Sie ist das dritte Boot der Osprey-Klasse. Am 6. Juni 1991 erfolgte die Kiellegung der USS Pelican (MHC-53). Das Schiff wurde am 18. November 1995 in Dienst gestellt. Seit dem 1. Januar 1997 gehörte das Schiff zur Naval Reserve Force und wurde für das Training von Reservisten verwendet. Am 16. März 2007 wurde die Pelican zusammen mit der USS Heron (MHC-52) außer Dienst gestellt und in "warmem Zustand" an die griechische Marine übergeben. Nach Abschluss einer Grundinstandsetzung und der Ausbildung der Besatzung wurden die beiden Schiffe nach Griechenland verlegt. Die Pelican wurde in Evniki umbenannt. (de)
