Trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based psychotherapy or counselling that aims at addressing the needs of children and adolescents with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other difficulties related to traumatic life events. This treatment was developed and proposed by Drs. Anthony Mannarino, Judith Cohen, and Esther Deblinger in 2006. The goal of TF-CBT is to provide psychoeducation to both the child and non-offending caregivers, then help them identify, cope, and re-regulate maladaptive emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Research has shown TF-CBT to be effective in treating childhood PTSD and with children who have experienced or witnessed traumatic events, including but not limited to physical or sexual victimization, child maltreatment, domestic

- Traumafokuserad kognitiv beteendeterapi, TF KBT, är den terapi som har starkast stöd i forskningen för att behandla barn och ungdomar som utvecklat PTSD och komplext PTSD. Socialstyrelsen rekommenderar även denna terapi som förstahandsval för vuxna med PTSD och komplex PTSD. Statens beredning för medicinsk utvärdering, SBU, beskriver terapin så här; "Strukturerad komponentbaserad korttidsbehandling som omfattar tre faser; en stabiliserande, en bearbetande samt en integrerande fas. Metoden integrerar komponenter av exponering, anknytningsteori, kognitiva- och beteendeterapeutiska interventioner samt systemisk familjeterapi." SBU rekommenderar tre former av TF KBT;
* cognitive processing therapy (CPT)
* narrative exposure therapy (NET)
* prolonged exposure therapy (PE) För personer som utsatts för krig och tortyr rekommenderas NET. Forskare vid Karolinska institutet har med gott resultat provat metoden i en internetbaserad version tillsammans med personer som genomgått svåra trauman men ännu inte utvecklat svårare symtom. (sv)
