The Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Office of Aviation, commonly called the State Department Air Wing or INL Air Wing (DoSAW or INL/A respectively) is an office of the United States Department of State which supports diplomatic aviation needs which fall outside the legal authority or scope of the U.S. Air Force. Its fleet is composed mostly of vintage aircraft and surplus military helicopters, in order to ease maintenance in austere environments and decrease the cost of upkeep for poor or developing governments which often receive the aircraft. INL’s fleet of upwards of 200 aircraft flies more than 13,000 hours annually in support of missions related to counternarcotics, counterterrorism, border security, law enforcement, and embassy transportation.
