Die bulgarische Kommission für Antarktische Geographische Namen benannte sie 2019. Namensgeber ist der Heilige Nikolaus von Myra, Namenspatron der Fischereischule in Burgas, deren Abgänger vielfach für die Gesellschaft Ocean Fisheries in Burgas arbeiteten, deren Fangflotte von den frühen 1970ern Jahren bis in die frühen 1990er Jahre in den Gewässern um Südgeorgien, um die Kerguelen, um die Südlichen Orkneyinseln und die Südlichen Shetlandinseln sowie um die Antarktische Halbinsel operiert hatte. The cove is “named after St. Nicholas, the patron saint of fishermen, in connection with the St. Nicholas Professional School of Maritime Shipping and Fishing in Burgas, Bulgaria, a number of whose alumni worked on fishing ships of the company Ocean Fisheries – Burgas in Antarctic waters from 1970 to the early 1990s. The Bulgarian fishermen, along with those of the Soviet Union, Poland and East Germany are the pioneers of modern Antarctic fishing industry.” (en)
