The Society for the Promotion of the Physical Exploration of the Dutch Colonies (Dutch: Maatschappij ter Bevordering van het Natuurkundig Onderzoek der Nederlandsche Koloniën) was founded on 14 May 1890 in Amsterdam, with the mission of increasing the knowledge of the botany of the Dutch colonies. This knowledge had applications both in pure science, as well as the fields of agriculture and industry. To that end, from the late 19th century to the eve of World War II, the Society equipped expeditions to explore Dutch overseas territories.

Perhimpunan ini lebih dikenal sebagai Perhimpunan Treub atas nama pendirinya, Melchior Treub. Tujuannya adalah memperbanyak pengetahuan tentang ilmu alam di koloni-koloni Belanda. Ilmu tersebut semestinya mendukung ilmu dasar dan perhatian terhadap pertanian dan industri. Oleh karena itu, sejak akhir abad ke-19 sampai Perang Dunia II, ekspedisi-ekspedisi yang dilakukan perhimpunan ini melengkapi fakta atas hal-hal yang belum diketahui oleh pihak kerajaan urusan luar negeri. Sejumlah pelayaran ekspedisi klasik dan terkenal, antara lain ke Borneo dan Nugini Belanda, dilangsungkan dengan dukungan dan wewenang di bawah Indisch Comité voor Wetenschappelijke Onderzoekingen (Komite Penelitian Ilmiah Hindia Belanda). Lembaga tersebut merupakan organisasi saudara perhimpunan ini yang berada di Batavia, Hindia Belanda. (in)

A number of famous classical and exploration trips to, among other Borneo and Dutch New Guinea were developed by and under the auspices of the Society and the Indian Committee for Scientific Investigations, a sister organisation in Batavia, Dutch East Indies. Deze nieuwe kennis moest zowel de zuivere wetenschap als de belangen van landbouw en nijverheid dienen. Daartoe werden vanaf het eind van de negentiende eeuw tot aan de vooravond van de Tweede Wereldoorlog expedities uitgerust naar onbekende delen van de overzeese rijksdelen. Een aantal klassieke en bekend geworden exploratietochten naar, onder andere Borneo en Nederlands Nieuw-Guinea, kwam tot stand met behulp en onder auspiciën van de Maatschappij en het Indisch Comité voor Wetenschappelijke Onderzoekingen, de wetenschappelijke zustermaatschappij in Batavia, Nederlands-Indië.
