Der Begriff des SRS ist an die für profitorientierte Unternehmen geltenden Rechnungslegungsstandards (Financial Reporting Standard) angelehnt. Da Sozialunternehmen und Non-Profit-Organisationen anders als klassische Unternehmen nicht primär den finanziellen Gewinn maximieren, sondern einen sozialen Nutzen stiften, ist eine Anwendung der Financial Reporting Standards für diese Unternehmen nicht zweckmäßig. Es bedarf daher der Entwicklung von SRS, welche die besondere Zielsetzung der Sozialunternehmen und Non-Profit-Organisationen berücksichtigen und darstellen können. Grundsätzlich können alle Richtlinien zur Berichterstattung im sozialen Bereich als SRS bezeichnet werden. Ein solches Rahmenkonzept für Standards zur Rechnungslegung und Berichterstattung im sozialen Bereich, welches bislang breite Unterstützung und Anwendung gefunden hat, wurde von verschiedenen Akteuren und Experten aus dem Sektor entwickelt. Dieser unter dem Namen Social Reporting Standard (SRS) geführte Ansatz versteht sich als offenes nicht-kommerzielles Projekt. (de)
- The Social Reporting Standard (SRS) provides a standardized reporting guideline for initiatives and projects in the non-profit sector. The term SRS is inspired by the Financial Reporting Standards of for-profit companies. Unlike traditional businesses, social enterprises and non-profit organisations are not primarily focused on maximizing profits, but rather on social issues. Therefore, the application of Financial Reporting Standards for such organisations is not appropriate. Thus, the development of the SRS, which takes into account the unique goals of non-for-profit organisations, is essential. Generally speaking, all reporting guidelines in the social sector can be regarded as SRS. Such a concept for reporting standards (accounting and legal) in the social sector has been developed by several experts in the German social sector.
