Oliver Hailer and Marilyn Canton Baker won a Writers Guild of America Award for Best Comedy Anthology - Original or Adapted and it was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special. The movie was one of prime time's first depictions of a gay man on television, and was protested by conservative organizations.
