Se fundó en año 1853 y debe su nombre al ministro escocés de la Iglesia Reformada Holandesa, William Robertson. Originariamente la agricultura y la construcción de carretas fueron las actividades económicas principales de la ciudad. Sin embargo, tras la Segunda Guerra Anglo-Bóer de 1899, la fabricación de carretas se derrumbó cuando los ferrocarriles asumieron el control el transporte de todas las mercancías. (es) Robertson is een dorp met 22.000 inwoners, in de provincie West-Kaap in Zuid-Afrika. Het bestaat sinds 1853 en dankt zijn naam aan de predikant William Robertson. Robertson ligt in de Breede River Valley en maakt deel uit van de Breede River Valley-regio. Het gebied is in de afgelopen jaren bekend geworden als een gebied dat kwaliteitswijnen produceert, bijvoorbeeld door het huis . Robertson wordt ook wel de 'vallei van wijn en rozen' genoemd, dit omdat er langs veel wijngaarden rozen zijn aangeplant.
