Richard Sewall Hunter (1909–1991) was a pioneering American color scientist and founder of Hunter Associates Laboratory (HunterLab). He is best known as the inventor in 1942 of the Hunter L,a,b color measurement system . Hunter was awarded the David Richardson Medal in 1971.
