Rainer Schmidt (born 18 February 1965) is a retired German para table tennis player who played in international level events. He participated in four Summer Paralympic Games and has won three Paralympic titles. He has also won five World titles and nine European titles in mostly team events with Jochen Wollmert. During his sporting career, he was a left handed player with a metal bar attached onto his left upper arm and has a prosthetic on his right leg.

Von 2005 bis 2015 arbeitete er als Dozent am Pädagogisch-Theologischen Institut Bonn. Seit 2015 arbeitet er freiberuflich als Referent, Moderator, Fortbilden und Kabarettist. Von Geburt an fehlen Rainer Schmidt beide Unterarme, nur am linken Oberarm sitzt ein kleiner Daumenansatz. Auch sein rechtes Bein ist verkürzt, er trägt eine Orthoprothese. Die Ursache hierfür war lange fraglich; während zunächst ein Amniotisches-Band-Syndrom vermutet wurde, geht Schmidt heute vom Femur-Fibula-Ulna-Syndrom als Ursache aus. (de)
