Python of Catana was a dramatic poet of the time of Alexander, whom he accompanied into Asia, and whose army he entertained with a satyric drama, called Agen (Ἀγήν) when they were celebrating the Dionysia on the banks of the Hydaspes. The drama was in ridicule of Harpalus and the Athenians; fragments of it are preserved by Athenaeus. Identification of the poet with Python of Byzantium, the highly regarded orator in the service of Philip II, is unlikely.

Recitò un suo dramma satiresco (Ἀγήν), nei confronti di Arpalo e degli Ateniesi, all'esercito di Alessandro presso le rive del fiume Idaspe. Ateneo (XIII, 586d; 595e, f; 596a), che trascrive circa venti righe del dramma di Pitone, lo menziona come un poeta di Catania o di Bisanzio, anche se probabilmente si confuse con il retore Pitone di Bisanzio. - Ο Πείθων ο Καταναίος (4ος αιώνας π.Χ.) ήταν Έλληνας δραματικός ποιητής με καταγωγή από την Κατάνη της Σικελίας, ο οποίος συμμετείχε στις εκστρατείες του Μεγάλου Αλεξάνδρου στην Ασία. Έγραψε το σατυρικό δράμα με τίτλο Ἀγήν, το οποίο απήγγειλε στα στρατεύματα κατά τον εορτασμό των Διονυσίων στις όχθες του Υδάσπη. Το ποίημα ήταν μειωτικό για τον Άρπαλο και τους Αθηναίους οι οποίοι του είχαν προσφέρει άσυλο ενώ αυτός είχε καταχραστεί τη θέση του και είχε υπεξαιρέσει μεγάλα ποσά από το μακεδονικό ταμείο. Ορισμένα αποσπάσματα του κειμένου διατηρούνται στα γραπτά του Αθήναιου. (el)
