| - Die Sage von Pyramus und Thisbe war in der Antike weit bekannt und ist in den erhaltenen Werken mehrfach erwähnt. Die früheste und ausführlichste Schilderung findet man in Ovids Epos über Verwandlungssagen mit dem Titel Metamorphosen. Seine Darstellung gipfelt, wie es der Absicht dieses Werks entspricht, in einer Verwandlung: Die Früchte des Maulbeerbaums sind seitdem nicht mehr weiß, sondern blutrot. Eine kürzere Fassung der Geschichte bietet Servius in seinem Kommentar zu den Eklogen des Vergil. (de)

- Pýramos a Thisbé je antická sága, jejíž klasické zpracování se nalézá v Proměnách římského básníka Ovidia. Pojednává o lásce mezi milenci, jejichž rodina jim nedovoluje se spolu vídat. Jelikož bydlí vedle sebe, najdou si Pýramos a Thisbé malou prasklinu ve společné zdi a skrze ni komunikují. Po nějaké době se domluví, že se tajně potkají u hrobu Ninova pod starou moruší. Thisbé dorazí na místo první. Když k ní přiblíží lvice s krvavou tlamou, lekne se a uteče do jeskyně. Cestou ztratí závoj a lvice ho zkrvavenou tlamou rozcupuje a nechá ležet u moruše. Poté ke stromu přijde Pýramos, který si všimne roztrhaného závoje potřísněného krví a myslí si, že je Thisbé mrtvá. Nechce bez ní žít a tak si žalem probodne srdce mečem. Thisbé po nějaké době vyjde z jeskyně a spatří mrtvého Pýrama. Je zouf (cs)

- Pyramus and Thisbe are a pair of ill-fated lovers whose story forms part of Ovid's Metamorphoses. The story has since been retold by many authors. Pyramus and Thisbe are two lovers in the city of Babylon who occupy connected houses. Their respective parents, driven by rivalry, forbid them to wed. Through a crack in one of the walls they whisper their love for each other. They arrange to meet near a tomb under a mulberry tree and state their feelings for each other. Thisbe arrives first, but upon seeing a lioness with a bloody mouth from a recent kill, she flees, leaving behind her cloak.
