Portus Julius (alternatively spelled in the Latin Iulius) was the first harbour specifically constructed to be a base for the Roman western naval fleet, the classis Misenensis; the eastern fleet was based in the Port of Ravenna. The port was located at Misenum on a peninsula at the northern end of the Gulf of Naples. Portus Julius was named in honour of Octavian's (later to become Caesar Augustus) great-uncle and adoptive father, Julius Caesar and the Julian clan.

(37 a.C.) al IV secolo, un suburbio portuale della città romana di Puteoli (l'attuale Pozzuoli). Realizzato sulla costa napoletana presso il lago di Lucrino, costituiva un imponente complesso portuale esteso fino al lago d'Averno. Risparmiato dalle distruzioni operate in loco dell'eruzione del Monte Nuovo, vulcano che nel 1538 gli si è formato a ridosso verso settentrione, attualmente gli impianti risultano sommersi per effetto del bradisismo flegreo, e sono stati riscoperti solo nel 1956.
