Pleumeur-Bodou Ground Station was an early ground station in north-west France, and one of the first in the world. It was the site of the first satellite transmission between the USA and Europe in the early morning of 11 July 1962 (French time), lasting 19 minutes on the satellite's seventh orbit.

Ce satellite nécessite une antenne spécifique de large diamètre et capable de suivre en temps réel la trajectoire du satellite : il s'agit de l'antenne "PB1" et son fameux radôme qui existe toujours sur le site. Le site s'étend ensuite, durant les années 1970 et 1980 avec d'autres antennes plus traditionnelles, destinées à l'exploitation du service Intelsat. Les télécommunications par satellite deviennent de plus en plus concurrencées par les câbles sous-marins et le site de Pleumeur est progressivement fermé à partir de 1999 jusqu'à 2003. Depuis, le site est transformé en musée : la Cité des Télécoms qui permet toujours d'admirer l'antenne PB1. (fr)
