The Original Prague Syncopated Orchestra (Czech: Originální Pražský Synkopický Orchestr or OPSO) is a Czech jazz band formed in Prague, in what was then Czechoslovakia, in 1974. It is best known for painstaking reconstructions of performances of music of the 1920s, using authentic instruments, and improvisation in the style of the time. During the 1980s, the ensemble's live concerts regularly featured lyrics in English, but broadcast performances did not. In 1995 the band split, with Havelka founding a rival group that eventually adopted the name Ondřej Havelka and his Melody Makers.

| - Originální Pražský Synkopický Orchestr (anglicky Original Prague Syncopated Orchestra, zkracováno na OPSO) je český orchestr hrající dobový jazz, swing, blues a spoustu dalších stylů z let 1922–1933, např. charleston, , foxtrot. Orchestr byl založen muzikologem Pavlem Klikarem na podzim roku 1974 původně jako kvintet - se třemi dechovými nástroji a dvoučlennou rytmickou sekcí, tvořenou pianem a banjem. Již od začátku zněl band neuvěřitelně věrně díky přesné interpretaci hudebníků a díky studiu a analýze stylu, ve kterém se hrálo ve dvacátých letech. Taktéž se analyzoval styl improvizace, který byl jiný než dnes, takže byla autenticita ještě větší. Band samozřejmě používá dobové nástroje. OPSO je známý po celém světě a dalo by se říct, že je to stylově nejčistší a umělecky nejpřesvědčivější band na světě.[zdroj?] Hraje přes 260 melodií z let 20.–30., které bývají málokdy známé přesně jak bychom je mohli slyšet na původních nahrávkách. Momentálně hraje v komorním obsazení, se kterým se začínalo – 7 až 8 hudebníků. Pořádají koncerty v Blues sklepě nebo na Karlově mostě v Praze. (cs)

La formació inicial del 1974 era una banda de cinc homes (tres instruments de vent, piano i banjo) sota la direcció artística del musicòleg . Tres membres més es van unir el 1976: un segon saxo, un violí i el vocalista . Al maig de 1978, la banda va tenir protagonisme europeu tocant al Festival de Vell Jazz a Breda (Països Baixos). Aquella tardor la banda es va expandir a dotze membres. Durant els anys vuitanta, els concerts en directe del conjunt van comptar regularment amb lletres en anglès, però les actuacions no es van retransmetre. El 1995 la banda es va dividir, i Havelka va fundar un grup rival que finalment va adoptar el nom d'. L'Orquestra Sincronitzada Original de Praga continua actuant, i és coneguda per les actuacions a l'aire lliure al Pont de Carles de Praga. (ca)

The initial line-up in 1974 was a five-man band (three wind instruments, piano and banjo) under the artistic direction of musicologist . Three more members joined in 1976: a second saxophone, a violin, and vocalist Ondřej Havelka. In May 1978 the band came to European prominence playing at the Festival of Old Jazz in Breda, the Netherlands. That autumn the band expanded to twelve members. During the 1980s, the ensemble's live concerts regularly featured lyrics in English, but broadcast performances did not. In 1995 the band split, with Havelka founding a rival group that eventually adopted the name Ondřej Havelka and his Melody Makers. The Original Prague Syncopated Orchestra continues to perform, and is well known for open-air performances on the Charles Bridge in Prague. (en)
