Nigel Keay (born 1955) is a New Zealand composer. He has been a freelance musician since 1983 working as a composer, violist, and violin teacher. Nigel Keay has held the following composer residencies: Mozart Fellowship, University of Otago 1986 and 1987, Nelson School of Music 1988 and 89, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra 1995. In 2006 Nigel Keay created the ensemble 6 with the conductor and pianist .

Il étudia le violon au Conservatoire de Wellington, puis la musicologie à partir de 1980. En 1982 il obtint le premier prix de composition. Il commence une carrière qui l'amène dans toute la Nouvelle-Zélande. Il part pour la France en 1998 et s'installe à Paris, et acquiert la nationalité française en 2000. Il y est altiste dans un quatuor à cordes. (fr)
