The New Book of Tang, generally translated as the "New History of the Tang" or "New Tang History", is a work of official history covering the Tang dynasty in ten volumes and 225 chapters. The work was compiled by a team of scholars of the Song dynasty, led by Ouyang Xiu and Song Qi. It was originally simply called the Tangshu (Book of Tang) until the 18th century.

  • 《신당서》(新唐書)는 북송 인종이 《구당서》(舊唐書)의 내용이 왜곡된 것이 많고 너무 부실하다고 하여 구양수 등에 명하여 1044년 ~ 1060년에 걸쳐 완성한 당나라의 역사를 서술한 책이다. 이십사사 중 하나에 속한다. 송나라 시대에 당시에 얻을 수 있는 자료를 구당서의 누락된 부분을 보충하고, 체계를 정비하여 내용을 갖추었다. 병지(兵志) ·선거지(選擧志)를 갖추고 재상세계표(宰相世系表)등 표가 많고 당시 중시되던 고문으로 문장을 간결하게 기술한 특징을 가지고 있어 정사 편찬에 새로운 기원을 이룩했으나, 구당서와 신당서의 편찬시기가 100년이라는 차이가 나는데 그 사이 소실되어 사라진 원사료가 많았는데 원사료의 문체를 고치고자 너무 지나치게 간략하고 문장의 앞뒤가 맞지 않는 부분 등으로 인해 사료적 가치는 《구당서》보다 못하다는 평이다.
