  • Nancy Oestreich Lurie (January 29, 1924 – May 13, 2017) was an American anthropologist who specialized in the study of North American Indian history and culture. During the mid-20th century, she represented several tribes as an expert witness at a time of Native American activism when tribes were pressing to make claims for compensation of lands they were forced to cede and for which they did not receive adequate payment. Her experience with ethnohistory enabled her to research documentation that helped represent their claims. (en)
