Depuis la réforme du gouvernement local de 2011, il fait partie du dème de Plataniás, dont il est devenu une unité municipale. Situé au centre du district régional, il était basé dans le village d'Alikianós. Selon le recensement de 2001, l'ancien dème avait un total de 4 755 habitants et une superficie de 191 744 ha. (fr)

Sie wurde zum 1. Januar 2011 im Rahmen des Kallikratis-Programms in die Gemeinde Platanias eingemeindet, wo sie seither einen Gemeindebezirk bildet. Laut Volkszählung lebten 2011 4026 Einwohner in dem (neuen) Gemeindebezirk Mousouri.

- Mousouroi (Greek: Μουσούροι) is a former municipality in the Chania regional unit, Crete, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Platanias, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 191.744 km2 (74.033 sq mi). It was part of the former Kydonia Province. The municipal unit extends from the hinterland of the town of Chania to the mountains of south Crete. Many tourists pass through Mousouroi on their way to Omalos and the start of the Samaria Gorge walk, which is in Mousouroi. Mousouroi is bordered by Voukolies in the southwest, Platanias in the northwest, Theriso to the east and East Selino in the southwest with Sfakia in the southeast. (en)

Laut Volkszählung lebten 2011 4026 Einwohner in dem (neuen) Gemeindebezirk Mousouri. Der Gemeindebezirk Mousouri besteht aus 12 Ortschaften und hat 22 Siedlungen. Mit einer Fläche von 190.966 Hektar und einer Bevölkerung von 4026 Einwohnern gemäß der Volkszählung von 2011 erstreckt sie sich vom Tiefland bis zu den Bergregionen der Weißen Berge. Zum Gebiet des Gemeindebezirks gehören die Hochebene von Omalos und Xyloskalo, der Ausgangspunkt zur Samaria-Schlucht, wie auch die Dörfer der Ebene, Alikianos, Vatolakkos, Skines und Fournes.
