- Los monofestrados (Monofenestrata) son un clado extinto de pterosaurios que incluye al género Darwinopterus (junto al resto de la familia Wukongopteridae) y al grupo Pterodactyliformes. Su nombre en latín significa "una fenestra", debido a que a diferencia de los arcosaurios basales y los primeros pterosaurios ("ranforrincoideos") no tenían diferenciada una abertura craneal o fenestra enfrente de la cuenca ocular, debido a que esta se fusiona con la abertura nasal, aparentemente para aligerar el peso del cráneo. Los más antiguos fósiles de monofenestrados se han hallado en la del Reino Unido, la cual data de la época del Bathoniense del Jurásico Medio, datando de hace cerca de 166 millones de años. (es)

The clade Monofenestrata was in 2009/2010 defined as the group consisting of Pterodactylus and all species sharing with Pterodactylus the synapomorphy of an external nostril confluent with the antorbital fenestra, the major skull opening on the side of the snout. The name is derived from Greek monos, "single", and Latin fenestra, "window". The concept was inspired by the discovery of Darwinopterus, a species combining a pterodactyloid-type skull with a more basal build of the remainder of the body. - De Monofenestrata zijn een groep pterosauriërs behorend tot de Breviquartossa. In 2009 werd de pterosauriër Darwinopterus beschreven. Deze soort was nauw aan de Pterodactyloidea verwant en toonde een mengeling van basale eigenschappen in de romp en afgeleide kenmerken in de kop. Hij toonde dat een typisch pterodactyloïde kenmerk, de samenvloeiing van neusgat en fenestra antorbitalis tot één opening in de zijkant van de snuit, zich vroeg had ontwikkeld. Men had Darwinopterus basaal in de Pterodactyloidea kunnen plaatsen door de definitie daarvan wat op te rekken maar zijn status als "overgangsvorm" kwam beter tot zijn recht door een omvattende groep te benoemen.
