Mecitözü is a town and district of Çorum Province in the Black Sea region of Turkey, 37 km from the city of Çorum. The district covers an area of 942 km², and the elevation is 750 m. According to 2000 census the district's population is 26,064, of which 5,787 live in the town of Mecitözü, with the majority living in the surrounding countryside. The mayor is Ünal Yavuz (CHP). Excavations in the village of Kuşsaray and the small town of Elvançelebi indicate habitation since 5000 BC.

| - Mecitözü ist eine Stadt und ein Landkreis der türkischen Provinz Çorum. Die Stadt liegt etwa 30 Kilometer östlich der Provinzhauptstadt Çorum. Die Stadt Mecitözü liegt am Fluss Efennik Çayı, einem Nebenfluss des , der wiederum in den Çekerek Çayı mündet. Im Norden liegt der Bergzug Çakır Dağı, im Süden der Kırklar Dağı. Die Stadt beherbergt mehr als ein Viertel der Landkreisbevölkerung (2020: 28,9 %). Der Landkreis liegt im Osten der Provinz. Er grenzt im Osten und Norden an die Provinz Amasya, im Süden an den Kreis Ortaköy und im Westen an den zentralen Landkreis. Mit seiner niedrigen Bevölkerungsdichte von 18 Einwohnern je Quadratkilometer erreicht der Kreis nicht einmal die Hälfte des Provinzdurchschnitts (43 Einwohner je km²). Der Kreis besteht neben der Kreisstadt noch aus 54 Dörfern (Köy) mit durchschnittlich 192 Bewohnern. Hisarkavak ist mit 638 Einwohnern das größte Dorf. (de)

There is also a flour mill and a brickworks. The town of Mecitözü provides the surrounding district with schools, sports facilities, a hospital and other basic infrastructure. There are three more health centres in the countryside. Excavations in the village of Kuşsaray and the small town of Elvançelebi indicate habitation since 5000 BC. (en)
