Ludwig Helmbold, also spelled Ludwig Heimbold, (21 January 1532 – 8 April 1598) was a poet of Lutheran hymns. He is probably best known for his hymn "Nun laßt uns Gott dem Herren", of which J. S. Bach used the fifth stanza for his cantata O heilges Geist- und Wasserbad, BWV 165; Bach also used his words in BWV 73, 79 and 186a.

Rektor och professor i filosofi i Erfurt och superintendent i Mühlhausen, Thüringen. Tre av hans psalmer var översatt och publicerades i 1695 års psalmbok. Han finns representerad i Den svenska psalmboken 1986 med originaltexten till ett verk (nr 551). I den tyska Evangelischen Gesangbuch är han representerad med två av sina 100-talet psalmtexter (nr 320 och nr 365). Han utnämndes år 1566 till hovpoet av kejsar Maximilian II. (sv)
