- Louis Bertrand Castel (Montpellier, 15 novembre 1688 – 9 gennaio 1757) è stato un matematico e gesuita francese. Studiò letteratura, ma si dedicò poi interamente a matematica e filosofia naturale. Scrisse diverse opere scientifiche, fra cui ricevette massima attenzione l'Optique des couleurs (1740) dove criticò la descrizione spettrale che Newton aveva fatto del colore prismatico, osservando che i colori della luce suddivisi dal prisma dipendevano dalla distanza dal prisma e che quindi Newton stava considerando un caso particolare. Questo argomento fu poi riutilizzato da Goethe nella sua Teoria dei Colori.. Lavorò per molti anni al suo clavicembalo oculare. (it)

- Louis Bertrand Castel (5 November 1688 – 11 January 1757) was a French mathematician born in Montpellier, who entered the order of the Jesuits in 1703. Having studied literature, he afterwards devoted himself entirely to mathematics and natural philosophy. After moving from Toulouse to Paris in 1720, at the behest of Bernard de Fontenelle, Castel acted as the science editor of the Jesuit Journal de Trévoux. (en)
