- The Leopold Quarter (French: Quartier Léopold, Dutch: ) is a quarter of Brussels, Belgium. Today, the term is sometimes confused with the European Quarter, as the area has come to be dominated by the institutions of the European Union (EU) and organisations dealing with them, although the two terms are not in fact the same, with the Leopold Quarter being a smaller more specific district of the municipalities of the City of Brussels, Etterbeek, Ixelles and Saint-Josse-ten-Noode. - Le quartier Léopold (néerlandais : Leopoldswijk) est un quartier bruxellois dans la commune de Bruxelles-ville. Il fut créé par la Société civile pour l'agrandissement et l'embellissement de Bruxelles le 4 octobre 1837 et doit son nom au roi Léopold Ier de Belgique. Le 15 novembre 1835, Ferdinand de Meeûs et ses associés Jacques Coghen et François Xavier Benard avaient déjà créé une société civile pour l'acquisition de biens immeubles : ils avaient déjà l'idée d'agrandir la ville de Bruxelles et peu à peu achetaient les terres de Saint-Josse-ten-Noode. - De Leopoldswijk, ook wel Leopoldskwartier (Frans: Quartier Léopold) vormt samen met de Wijk van de Squares de Europese Wijk van de Belgische hoofdstad Brussel. Het gaat om het gebied tussen de Kleine Ring in het westen, het Jubelpark en het Leopoldpark in het oosten, en de Jozef II-laan en de Troonstraat in respectievelijk het noorden en het zuiden. De buurt strekt zich uit over het grondgebied van de gemeentes Brussel-stad, Etterbeek, Elsene en Sint-Joost-ten-Node. Het gros van de in Brussel gevestigde instellingen van de Europese Unie zijn hier gesitueerd. (nl)
