Lawrence Andrew Rainey (March 2, 1923 โ November 8, 2002) was Sheriff of Neshoba County, Mississippi during the 1960s. He gained notoriety for allegedly being involved in the June 1964 murders of Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner. Rainey was a member of Mississippi's White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. Rainey died of cancer in 2002 and is buried next to his family in Kemper County, Mississippi.
