Dezember 2015) war ein ungarisch-US-amerikanischer Mathematiker, der sich mit Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie und speziell Warteschlangentheorie befasste und mit stochastischen Prozessen. Er war Gastwissenschaftler an den Bell Laboratories, bei IBM Research und 1966 an der Stanford University. Er leistete wesentliche Beiträge zur Warteschlangentheorie und führte 1954 unabhängig von Paul Lévy und Semi-Markow-Prozesse ein. 1994 erhielt er den John-von-Neumann-Theorie-Preis. 1993 wurde er auswärtiges Mitglied der Ungarischen Akademie der Wissenschaften. - Lajos Takács (August 21, 1924 (Maglód) – December 4, 2015) was a Hungarian mathematician, known for his contributions to probability theory and in particular, queueing theory. He wrote over two hundred scientific papers and six books. He worked as a mathematician at the (1948–55), the Research Institute for Mathematics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1950–58) and was an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics of the L. Eötvös University (1953–58). He was the first to introduce semi-Markov processes in queueing theory. (en)
