- Lais (griechisch Λαίς Laís) war eine griechische Hetäre, die im 4. Jahrhundert v. Chr. in Korinth tätig war. Der Lohn, den sie für ihre sexuellen Gefälligkeiten verlangte, war legendär (bereits 10.000 Drachmen in ihrer Anfangszeit). Sie war aber nicht nur wegen ihrer Schönheit und ihrer Preise berühmt, sondern auch wegen ihrer Konversation und ihres Charmes. Einige ihrer Liebhaber waren Aristippos von Kyrene und . Aristippos soll sie reich beschenkt, Eubotas einen Heiratsversuch ihrerseits listig abgewendet haben. Unentgeltlich soll sie die Geliebte des Philosophen Diogenes gewesen sein. Im Alter erhielt sie nur noch geringe Bezahlung und verfiel dem Alkohol. Ihr Grabmal in Korinth zeigt einen Widder, der von einer Löwin zerrissen wird. (de)
- Lais of Corinth (Ancient Greek: Λαΐς and Λαΐδα) (fl. 425 BC) was a famous hetaira or courtesan of ancient Greece, who was probably born in Corinth. She shared a name with the younger hetaira Lais of Hyccara; as ancient authors (in their usually indirect accounts) often confused them or did not indicate which one they referred to, the two women became inextricably linked. Lais lived during the Peloponnesian War and was said to be the most beautiful woman of her time. Among her clients were the philosopher Aristippus (two of his alleged writings were about Lais) and the Olympic champion Eubotas of Cyrene. (en)
