Léon Nicole (10 April 1887 in Montcherand, Vaud – 28 June 1965 in Geneva) was a prominent trade unionist, journalist, politician and member of the Grand Council of Geneva and the Swiss National Council. In 1933, he was a member of the first Cantonal government in Switzerland with a Socialist majority and the first socialist ever elected to lead a Canton. He was elected the first President of the Swiss Party of Labour in 1944. In 1952 he was expelled from the Party of Labour for expressing sympathy towards Yugoslavia and in 1954 set up a rival communist party called the Progressive Party.

Il fréquente les écoles de son village natal et celle d'Orbe avant de partir à l'École d'administration de Saint-Gall. Fonctionnaire postal de 1905 à 1919 puis secrétaire syndical en 1920-1921, il devient rédacteur de plusieurs journaux socialistes dont Le Travail et La Voix ouvrière.   • Léon Nicole, född 10 april 1887, död 28 juni 1965, var en schweizisk socialdemokratisk politiker. Nicole var nationalrådsledamot och redatökr för tidningarna Travail och Droit du peuple. Han blev främst känd i samband med de blodiga kravallerna i Genève 9 november 1932. Den fascistiska organisationen Union nationale anordnade denna dag ett möte, som gav anledning till stora motdemonstrationer från arbetarnas sida, varvid svåra sammandrabbningar med militären uppstod. 11 personer dödades och 30 sårades. Efter kravallerna häktades Nicole, trots sin parlamentariska immunitet och dömdes för "upphetsande tal till massorna" till några månaders fängelse. Han arbetade senare ivrigt på att skapa en stark enhetsfront mellan arbetare och bönder mot den fascistiska rörelsen. (sv)
