Julie Beth Lovins (October 19, 1945 in Washington, D.C. – January 26, 2018 in Mountain View, California) was a computational linguist who first published a stemming algorithm for word matching in 1968. The Lovins Stemmer is a single pass, context sensitive stemmer, which removes endings based on the longest-match principle.
