Das Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names benannte sie 1970 nach dem Geologen David P. Johnston, Mitglied einer Mannschaft des United States Antarctic Research Program zur Untersuchung dieses Gebiets zwischen 1967 und 1968. (de)
